Well the excitement is really setting in now as I make final arrangements for our travel. Packing and ensuring we have all we need for the 4 weeks adventure. Which are you? A Roller or a Folder? Pack your bags Folding or rolling your clothes when packing is a point of contention for some - for me, rolling is the way to go as I find it gives me more room and keeps everything in good order.  For this trip, I have decided to use travel packing cubes to organise my bag - something new, but a great idea for organising and grouping small items in zip closed internal bags. Things like - medications and all the adaptors and charging cables. You can pick them up from places like Big W for a only around $25.00 (pack of three). And remember, always leave room for the all important shopping! Itinerary for the first two weeks of our travel will be: Rome Florence (including Cinque Terra) Venice St Marco's Plaza, Venice Reminiscing.... As I emb...

Final preparations - 2 week to go... starting my own pilgrimage - Il Camino

One of things that inspired me to make Spain my next destination was 'The Way of St James' or you may know it as 'Il Camino'. Its been called by many names but the pilgrimage though Northern Spain to Santiago de Compostela has been something that has drawn me for many years to this region. If you have walked the Camino, I would love to hear your story, but for this trip, I will be exploring the country and hope this journey will inspire me to come again and complete my walk. A Book that also inspired this travel was by Dee Nolan titled 'A food lovers pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela'. A beautiful book highlighting the beauty and culture of the way of St James. Some of the places I plan to include in this journey around Spain and Portugal include: Barcelona Madrid San Sebastián San Sebastián Lisbon Oporto and the Douro Valley Douro Valley Portugal There are so many amazing things to see - so to help me decide I us...

Italy,Spain and Portugal - 3 weeks to go!

The excitement of a long planned journey finally approaching is all part of the travel adventure. This adventure will be in part a  return to places I have seen before but will also include new places yet to explore. Italy is a country I have been to many times and could never tire to return to. Having a new traveling companion with me on this trip, that has never been to Italy before, will be fun - not only so I share what I have seen with him but see the country though his fresh eyes. It's a rule of mine that any travel I undertake MUST include at least one place I have never been before and Spain and Portugal will be new for me. As I have prepared and planned for this travel, the excitement has built as I discover more things about these wonderful regions that I never knew and now, want to see. More soon on this! Over the next 3 weeks, before we depart, I will share my plans and tips I discovered, hoping they may be helpful for y...
