When you can't travel the world - how can you bring the world to you?

Reliving my French Food Memory

Bonsoir,

 Carcassonne, France

So one of my methods in managing my travel withdraws is to revisit my favorite food memories.
Those that know me, are aware that food is as much a passion for me as travel - so it's the next best thing in a bad situation  - yes?

Australia is a fabulous country with great food from all cultures around the world even just in Sydney (and considering the rest of Australia is pretty much off limits, NSW is my playground!) - so I have decided to indulge in regular outings to a different country around my city to experience the  best in global cuisine we have on offer.

First stop - France - and FRENCH FOOD  - Oh la la!

The hunt started to find local but fabulous cultural cuisines and my first find was Bistro Cocotte in Haberfield.
This is a great find - lovely, local and truly authentic.

Haberfield is a inner city suburb of Sydney that I learnt a little about that most may not know - The entire suburb of Haberfield in a heritage listed area and therefore enjoys the lack of re-development and change.
Originally built during the Spanish flu epidemic (how uncanny?) so wealthy city dwellers could get away from the disease infected city centre, Haberfield has lovely large blocks with Edwardian homes that can never be developed.

Bistro Cocotte is in the centre of the town village on Ramsey St amongst many Italian cafes and bakeries and therefore offers a point of difference to the local clientele.

Entering this shop front eatery with its timber floors and bistro style deco is cosy and inviting
The menu offers all the classics that Shaun (my dining companion) and I enjoyed from our past Northern French travels, giving us many a happy memory.

As a start, the staff offered a amuse bouche of snails with parsley oil to start the taste buds - I nice touch to impress.

Entrees we selected were The cheese souffle - amazing and warning French Onion soup. Both delicious and offer a familiar comfort that was rich and lushess.

For Mains, I selected the dish of the day - Duck breast with Parsnip puree and a kumquat jam sauce  - a nice spin on duck a l'orange!
Shaun was excited to order the Cassoulet with Duck Confit as this dish was a favorite during our travels to Carcassonne in 2018. He was not disappointed, however the serving size was not quiet as generous as the French gave!!

The classic desserts of Creme brulee and Apple tarte tatin rounded off our reminisce back to the region of Occitanie.

This evening nurtured my travel sole -  and with a warming Merlot to round it all off - I can strongly recommend this venue if you are looking for a little touch of French culture and cuisine

Tre Bien

Enjoy food lovers x
